Opening up access to culture for young Cambodians

The project

CultureSocial inclusion
Sipar, supported by the Antoine de Saint Exupéry Foundation for over 25 years, leads the bibliobus project—mobile libraries that travel to remote areas of Cambodia. Inspired by the spirit of The Little Prince and in partnership with the Saint Exupéry Foundation for Youth and Sofitel, they provide children far from cultural centers with spaces for reading, discovery, and imagination, becoming true gateways to knowledge.

Solution

In Cambodia, 11 cultural vehicles (bibliobus, biblio tuk-tuks and biblio-boats) criss-cross the slums of Phnom Penh, the rural areas around Siem Reap, the province of Ratanakiri and the floating villages of Lake Tonlé Sap. Every week, they bring thousands of books, lead reading sessions and support children in their learning. More than 120 isolated villages thus benefit from regular access to culture, discovery and the pleasure of reading.

Use of the money

Donations will fund the operation of the bookmobiles: book purchase, fuel, vehicle maintenance and animator training. Inspired by the spirit of the Little Prince, they will take children into worlds of imagination and discovery, extend tours to new remote villages and offer them access to reading, knowledge and sustainable prospects.
