The MERCI project supports the restoration of mangroves in and around Ujung Kulon National Park on the island of Java, while promoting the resilience and development of local communities and the conservation of biodiversity (notably the habitat of the iconic and endangered Javan rhino).

MERCI is fully committed to adapting to and mitigating the effects of climate change. Through awareness-raising actions on more than 20,165 stakeholders (residents, schools, local authorities, ...), and the training of 52 community members in income-generating activities that respect natural resources, it guarantees a sustainable impact and enhanced protection of restored ecosystems in and around Ujung Kulon Park.
Use of the money
Donations will fund the phase 2 of the MERCI project, with an expanded intervention including:
- the restoration of aquaculture ponds (active and inactive) by planting mangroves outside Ujung Kulon National Park (UNNP), extension to buffer zonesof UNNP with the development of agroforestry.
- the strengthening of actions to raise awareness among local communities, environmental education and the promotion of sustainable aquaculture models.
